Nature Tales: Insects
Nature Tales is a once a month story time program provided by Woodbury County Conservation Board and Dorothy Pecaut nature Center.
Books
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
The Very Lazy Ladybug by Isobel Finn & Jack Tickle
Craft: Egg Carton Caterpillars
We cut the bottom egg carton cups into 2 strips ahead of time and also punched 2 holes in one end for a place for antennae. The children colored the egg carton caterpillar with markers and crayons, put pipe cleaners through the holes for antennae and decorated.
Snack: Ants on a Log
Covered stick pretzels with peanut butter and placed raisins on them to represent the ants. Be sure to have alternative spread available in case of peanut allergies.
Hike
We took a short hike outdoors to look for invertebrates of all kinds. We also stopped and looked under logs for critters and used bug boxes.
