• Empty film canisters
  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Red food coloring
  • Preferably an outdoor space where children can make a volcano in the soil

Fill half of the film canisters with baking soda. Have the children create their own volcano in the sand box, a patch of soil, or playground mulch. Pile up the soil/sand/mulch around the film canister. Give each child another film canister filled with red colored vinegar. Slowly pour the vinegar on the baking soda and watch the volcanoes bubble.
