Catch a Butterfly

Catch a Butterfly

Materials

  • small butterfly nets or large plastic/paper cups with a craft stick handle attached
  • pre-cut tissue paper butterflies
  • basket to hold the butterflies

This is a fun activity for the children and it develops eye hand coordination. It is best if the children play in groups of three or four.
Give each child a “net.” Practice the procedure so that the children understand they will be taking turns. Only one child will be trying to catch the butterfly at a time.

An adult calls a child’s name, tosses a butterfly into the air and only the named child can try to catch it. Play until every child has been successful several times.

Older children can play this game independently.
