Game: Memory

We played a memory game while waiting for all of our participants to show up. Children took turns finding an animal match. Each pair of animals also told what that animal does in the winter – hibernate, migrate, or is active. We discussed each animal as the pair was found.

Craft: Coffee Ground Bears

Children painted diluted glue onto a pre-cut shape of a bear out of brown construction paper. Once their bear was painted with glue, they sprinkled coffee grounds onto the bear to represent fur. Children also were allowed to choose a foam circle for the bear’s eye.

Hike: Animal Homes Hike

We took a short hike and looked for animals, their homes, nests and signs, such as tracks or rubbings. We found squirrel nests, a woodpecker home, hollow logs, snails and insect’s logs, and tracks of turkey and deer.
