Nose Know-How
Materials:
- Empty film canisters
- Cotton balls
- Different scents (vanilla, peppermint, orange, lemon, pine, maple)
Soak ten cotton balls each in a different scent. Put each cotton ball into a separate film canister and close the lid. Have the children sit in a circle and talk about the importance of smell in nocturnal animals. Pass the film canisters around and have the children sniff them. After everyone has had a chance to smell the canister, talk about the odor and how some nocturnal animals use their sense of smell to locate food and territory.
