Rocks
Make a Rock Collection
Rocks filling a driveway make an excellent first rock collection. Fill al large tub with rocks for the children to select from or go on a field trip to a driveway. Have each child bring an egg carton to use as a display for their collection.
Sorting Rocks
Have the children sort rocks by various categories: color, weight, shape, texture.
Rock Rubbings
Bring in some large rocks to make rubbings with the edges of crayons. Better yet, go on a neighborhood rock rubbing tour. Rub rocks from yards, driveways, paths, and houses. If you live in town, especially one with older buildings, go on a building rubbing fest.
