The Salamander Room by Anne Mazer

Review The Salamander Room. A flannel board activity is easy to create for this book. Create a bedroom on the flannel board. Add the items from the story that Brian will add to his room to make the salamander happy. What does the room look like at the end of the story? (a forest) Explain that salamanders live in the leaf litter of a forest.

A salamander looks a little silly with their short legs and long body and tail. What do salamanders eat?

Frogs and salamanders are related. We call them amphibians. To learn a little more about amphibians ask for two volunteers.

Dress the volunteers up like a frog.

Frog Skin – Garbage bag with arm holes cut out, spray to keep skin wet, party blower tongue, egg carton eyes, flippers for feet.

*Remind children not to play with garbage bags.

Goldfish crackers, gummy worms, gummy fish, gummy frogs
